Leicester start life after Ranieri with victory over Liverpool

Leicester started life after Claudio Ranieri with their first win of 2017, beating Liverpool 3-1 at the King Power stadium. Jamie Vardy opened the scoring, latching onto a through ball and slotting home, before a superb volley from Danny Drinkwater gave them a 2-0 lead at half-time. United edge out Southampton to lift the EFL Cup

Two goals from Zlatan Ibrahimovic helped Manchester United claim the first major silverware of the season as they edged out Southampton 3-2 to win the EFL Cup at Wembley.

It was nearly a dream start for Southampton, who had the opening goal wrongly ruled out for offside. United then took the mantle and goals from Ibrahimovic and Jesse Lingard seemingly put them in control of the tie.

Two goals, either side of half-time from Manolo Gabbiadini drew the Saints level before Ibrahimovic headed home from close range to break Southampton hearts.

Spurs thump Stoke to cure European hangover

A hat-trick from Harry Kane helped Spurs bounce back from their Europa League exit in style, with a thumping 4-0 win over Stoke City at White Hart Lane.

A fantastic first-half display saw Kane net three goals before turning provider as Dele Alli made it 4-0 before the break.

The second was a far less lively affair, as Stoke looked less vulnerable defensively and Spurs controlled possession, to secure the three points and a clean sheet.

Summer signing Andre Ayew scored and then turned provider, as Swansea City came from a goal down to beat Manchester United at the Liberty Stadium.
